Authentic World War II Japanese Good Luck Flag (Yosegaki Hinomaru), often referred to by U.S. servicemen as a “meatball” flag. This example was reportedly obtained on Iwo Jima and features numerous period ink signatures and messages of encouragement to the original soldier.
The flag displays the iconic red sun disc on white field, with bold kanji inscriptions radiating outward. Known as hinomaru yosegaki, these flags were presented to Japanese soldiers by friends, family, and community members before deployment as a token of protection and honor.
